1X13 - Gender Bender - Spring Onion Pasta

AGENT W:
Agent S and I have a habit of watching TV during dinner. And when I say "TV" I mean "my laptop" because we don't actually have a television. (Full disclosure: we actually do have a television, but the cable won't reach it. And the only reason we have cable in the first place is because it comes free with the Internet.)

We discovered a few weeks ago that the entire NINE seasons of The X-Files had recently been made available for instant view on Netflix. Right around finals week. Perfect timing. One [my preferred] option would have been to drop out of grad school and watch the entire series back to back for the next two weeks. That seemed inadvisable, so instead we decided to limit ourselves to one episode a day, to be viewed at meal time. After all, everybody's gotta eat--no matter how hard you're trying to cram for a Criminal Procedure final.

Fourteen episodes in to our viewing we had an idea to blog about the food we eat while watching the X-Files. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't motivated partially by a desire to get Agent S hooked on the series.

Okay, this is not the actual meal, but a version we made a while back with spinach, asparagus and bucati (instead of orecchiette) and without ricotta. Different, but good. (The bottle of 2002 Marcel Deiss Engelgarten helped.)

AGENT S:
The market was bountiful today. We love our orecchiette, so I boiled some of that. Meanwhile, I sauteed green garlic and spring onions in a little butter. I thinned out some ricotta with a little pasta water. Then I added some (frozen) peas to the pan and mixed everything together. Creamy and garlicky and good. Hopefully it will ward off the gender-bending vampire Amish.

AGENT W:
Today we reached the episode "Gender Bender." I knew this one would be a hit with Marty because it was about, ahem, "Trannies" and a quasi-Amish sect. It was probably another plus that the villain was named Brother Martin, but I had forgotten about that until we watched.

The episode started out strong but got a little weak and hokey toward the end. Marty thought that the "wet clay cave" bit was a bit too "fairytale." And making the Amish people turn out to be aliens was an unnecessary way to cap this episode off.
